What is Included in the Legal Checkup Service?

One of the key benefits of working with a Fractional GC is having a lawyer with real in-house experience learn your business, identify key legal issues and provide practical action steps to mitigate those issues. Not to make it perfect, but help protect revenue as you grow with realistic solutions that reduce the most significant risks.

This review is provided at a flat rate and ends with a customized legal roadmap for your business.

Here is how the checkup is conducted:

- Schedule a free consultation session here so that we can run conflicts and make sure this service is a good fit for your business.

- If all is in sync, an engagement agreement is provided and signed.

- You'll receive a packet providing an overview of the legal areas surveyed to help you understand the survey questions and scope.

- A survey with multiple questions across different legal areas will  be distributed. Depending upon the number of business persons involved, there may be calls before, during and after the survey completion to make sure sufficient information is collected.

- A roadmap will be provided that summarizes survey responses, identifies key legal risks and provides recommended legal solutions.

- This process can usually be completed in a 2-4 week period. Timing depends on the complexity, client responsiveness and the amount of follow-up needed to collect information.

- Some recommended solutions in the roadmap will cover services that Extended Counsel can provide. Other recommendations may need to be completed internally or require external services that we don’t handle (ex: issues  relevant to a heavily regulated area that is better served by counsel specializing in that area). For any services that we don’t handle we do our best to provide referrals.

Heather Asher founded Extended Counsel after working inside companies and seeing the same problem from different angles: businesses often wait too long to build the legal systems they need.

As a former General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Heather has worked with CEOs, CFOs, boards, sales teams, operations teams, and legal departments. She brings practical in-house judgment to the legal issues that show up in real business decisions.

Her work is shaped by more than 15 years of legal experience, including senior in-house roles, law firm experience, commercial contracts, corporate governance, M&A matters, and legal team leadership. And yes, she went to Harvard Law, but she would say her practical experience and the results she delivers are far more important than any credentials. Helping Busy In-House Legal Teams Find the Time

This is a photo of my laptop keyboard after two and a half years as a General Counsel. The laptop I used to review contracts in the carpool lane, facilitate a virtual board meeting I scheduled to sync up with halftime at my son’s soccer game or send that last email in the doctor’s office before the doctor reappeared to tell me that surprisingly (sarcasm) the sharp pain was stress related.
